The Short Sale Register (SSR) ssr.finanstilsynet.no, and the connected authentication service (Auth) auth.finanstilsynet.no, is used to enable reporting of short positions to the Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway.

The Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway, represented by the director, is the controller and responsible for the processing of the personal data in the register

Personal data

Should you choose to register as a user of the Short Sale Register, The Financial Supervisory Authority will ask you to provide personal information, including name, address, phone number, email, country of residence, ID-document and equivalent information about any natural or legal persons you intend to report short positions on behalf of. This information is used to ensure that the positions reported are legitimate, and to support reporting of positions to the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and to ensure that Financial Supervisory Authority fulfills legal obligations in Regulation 236/2012.

Reported positions are personal data if the person represented is a natural person. Public disclosure of such positions is processing of personal data. The purpose of this processing of personal data, is to ensure that the Financial Supervisory Authority fulfills legal obligations laid down in Regulation 236/2012 article 6.

The legal basis for the Financial Supervisory Authority's processing of personal data is fulfillment of legal obligations (GDPR article 6 (1) (c)).

Personal data may be disclosed to ESMA or the national financial supervisory authorities of other countries, when it is necessary to fulfil legal obligations in Regulation 236/2012. The personal data is kept for as long as necessary to fulfil legal obligations that the Financial Supervisory Authority is subject to, including national archive legislation.

Personal information that is provided to The Financial Supervisory Authority is encrypted before transmission using HTTPS, and is stored in encrypted form in our databases.
